Peripheral knowledge and observation perspectives required for mechanical design.


1. Be proficient in reading mechanical design manuals. Be familiar with some technical features of standard parts and commonly used parts.


2. Know many common parts suppliers and skillfully read their product samples. Nowadays, mechanical design tends to be modular, and the overall technical requirements for mechanical equipment manufacturing plants focus more on the assembly and application of some accessories and components.


3. Be familiar with the raw materials. Because thinning, narrowing, and shortening are common in the steel market, what you buy may be different from what you expected.


4. Have an in-depth understanding of the structural principles and performance characteristics of various commonly used machine tools. As the saying goes, everything changes without departing from its roots, and the same is true for machine tools.


5. Have certain machine tool assembly capabilities. The drawings can be better used in actual operations and avoid mismatch between the drawings and the actual objects.


6. Have certain knowledge in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and other aspects. At least you must be able to understand the hydraulic system schematic diagram or electrical schematic diagram/wiring diagram provided by others.


7. Develop the ability to capture, discover, simplify, summarize, and learn from life. A person who engages in mechanical design should be better at discovering "moving" things and phenomena in daily life.


8. Have some knowledge of sheet metal. A good design work should allow laypeople to make judgments such as “beautiful”, “advanced”, “solid” and “stable” as the first impression in their minds.


9. Have some knowledge of metal materials and heat treatment. As mechanical design engineers, the industry we are engaged in has many cross-cutting disciplines.


10. Design software is just a tool, not using it is the purpose. It does not mean that it is wrong for you to study and delve deeply into the various functions of a certain software. It is just that a person's learning ability and learning direction should be grasped correctly.


Those of us who do mechanical design must understand that software is just a tool that replaces the traditional drawing board and T-square. You should spend your main energy and time on pure design ideas instead of letting yourself be tied up by these powerful software.
